WHAT ARE YOUR HOLIDAY RECYCLING AND REUSE CHALLENGES?

To my wonderful Lettuce Recycle blog followers – I would love your input on the following question:  WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GREATEST RECYCLING CHALLENGES DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

I can think of several examples, such as too much garbage and too many items to recycle. I am sure there are others.

Feel free to post your ideas to this blog.  If you have questions, I will try to answer them.

  1. Can I recycle wrapping paper if it has small pieces of tape on it?

    1. I just checked with the City of Austin and YES, gift wrap with tape on it can be recycled.

And also, I just learned that in Austin, those stands of christmas lights that no longer work can be taken to the Recycling and Reuse Drop-Off Center.
      They cannot be recycled curbside.

  2. Hi Dena,
What do we do with paper envelopes padded with bubble wrap?

  3. These cannot be placed into your curbside bin or into the plastic collection bins at your local grocery store. Any item with two layers of materials like the paper lined with the bubble wrap, is very difficult to recycle. If possible, you can reuse them or you can use them as padding when you mail something.

Plastic shipping envelopes, including Tyvek ®, can be placed into the plastic collection bins at the grocery stores.

  4. Well Durn... I'll avoid getting those in the future. Funny my friend sent me two of these used envelopes when she padded our shipment of maple syrup from her farm. I guess I have to be the bad guy and throw them away. Thanks for the quick answer.
